It was man that I watched shove my mother around.
It was man that shoved me around.
It was man that attempted to rape me in my 20s.
It was man that made me feel like an sexual object.
It was man who sexually abused me as a child for 6 years.

It is because of man that I am who I am today.
Despite my belief that man has contributed to much of my suffering;
I do not blame them.
I do not hold every man accountable for the actions of the individual “men” that caused me harm.

Because woman has contributed just as much to my suffering;

The last person to make me uncomfortable was a woman in late 2017.
No man has made me feel the way she did in years.
She told me I was into women, that I wanted her.
I didn’t.
I was there at that bar watching my husbands band play.
I told her that.
I told her no.
More than once my friends saw me say no; and hell, my husband saw me say no too.
But that didn’t matter.
She proceeded to shove her tongue in my mouth against my wishes and consistently invade my space, but I didn’t want to be rude, but I didn’t want to hurt her feelings.
I haven’t been in a situation like that since before I started dating my husband, because any male that has made an advance on me since has taken my no’s as my answer.

GASP!

It was women that knocked me out and broke my nose.
It was women that shoved me around.
It was women that had me questioning who I was and how I looked.
It was women who tore me down online and in person.
It was women who slut shamed me.
It was women that failed to protect me from sexual abuse as a child.

It is because of women that I am who I am today.
Despite my belief that women contributed to much of my suffering;
I do not blame them.
I do not hold every woman accountable for the actions of the individual women that have caused me harm.

If I blamed everyone that reminds me of the people in my life that have hurt me, I’d never run out of people to blame.
